This is how you know it’s time to do laundry.
And since I’m having a hard enough time bringing high socks back into style, I doubt I’m going to have any luck with one high and one no-show sock.
Heading out on an easy four-miler.
P.s. My running shorts aren’t as short as they appear. Promise. I’m under no false-belief that Ben and short-shorts are a good combination.

November 1st Weigh Day.
Down a half-pound from October 15th. Not good and I feel a little guilty, but I kind of expected it with the New York City vacation. Maintaining is better than gaining, though.
Just over a month until the marathon. It’d be sweet to be at 235 for it. A solid November would get me there easily.
I hereby proclaim this month “No-excuses November.” Who’s with me?

lifedoesjed:

A few months ago my brother and I talked about making a video about doing life. He put his out in September, and since I have a family and real job, it took me a little longer than him to put one together. Here it is.

Some of you new followers might not know about my brother Jed. Other than him misremembering who called whom back in December of 2008, and putting the question mark inside the quotations (periods and commas only, dude.) it’s a good video.

Check it out and follow him (maybe if more people follow him, he’ll post every once in a while…)

I’ve mentioned on numerous occasions that my diet is where I struggle the most in the quest for perfect health and fitness. If I could combine my training and working out with a most-of-the-time-stellar diet like a lot of you all do, I would be completely satisfied with my healthy lifestyle.
But, like a lot of people, I tend to go for what’s quick and convenient. And what’s quick and convenient is usually not the healthiest of meals.
It was one of these posts that caught the attention of a representative for Fresh Express and led her to email me encouraging me to try the Fresh Express Kits. It’s basically what it sounds like: Salad in a bag with all the makings of a tasty meal.
She even offered to send me some coupons. Which, uhh…. free healthy food? Yes please. And she also made it clear that there was no obligation on my part to talk about Fresh Express in a positive light, that she was, in fact, just trying to help.
But seriously, these kits are incredible. And again, I am in no way representing the company.
BUT! I asked her if it would be okay to share the coupons with all of you and she said it was.
So, the next 20 people that order a Do Life T-shirt will get two coupons, each good for one kit. The kits are like four or five dollars each, so it’s a heck of a deal any way you look at it.
And even if you don’t want a shirt, be on the lookout for these things (other brands have them, too) if you’re looking for a way to get some quick and tasty meals.

Update: Coupons are gone, but, by all means, grab a T-shirt in time for the Holidays :)

A friendly reminder

In case you’re interested.

I’ll be on Adam Goucher’s and Tim Catalano’s Radio show in 45 minutes (noon eastern).

You can go here to listen live. There’s even a call-in number if you want to call and ask me questions directly. You can also interact through the chat room if you want.

Otherwise, I will have the link to the podcast up sometime afterward.

She’s a bee and I’m a beekeeper.

We’re at a Halloween party, and I’ll be doing a lot of sitting due to the legs-feel-like-shaz factor.

A note to all future marathoners.
Running 20 miles is not “fun.”
It’s satisfying and worthwhile, but “fun” is not a word to use. And you might say, “well, a marathon is 6.2 miles longer, why is that different?”
But after a marathon, you bask in glory and get a medal and drink beers and all the other debauchery. But after a 20-mile training run, you’re just done. That’s all. And you feel like hell.
But. Like I said, it’s worthwhile and when you finish your marathon, you will look back at the 20-miler with pride.
But seriously. They aren’t very fun.
20 miles — 3 hours 36 minutes — 10:56 pace.
Edit: Pictured: Jed’s friend Jeremiah (who is also doing Las Vegas), Jed and his son, Anderson (coolest kid ever), and me (“recovering.”). Also, Anderson might be in the finish picture, but he didn’t run the 20 miles. (Sorry, dude, you have to put in the miles to get credit.)

Getting ready to leave for a 20-miler.

I don’t care how many times I’ve done this distance (sevenish) it still feels overwhelming to do, especially after my last one ended after 12 miles and ankle-shin pain.

This is the longest distance of training (I do it again in two weeks, though) and it’s nice to have the confidence to do it but, still, it’s a little nerve-wracking.

Nothing beats the feeling of being done (and the food) after a 20-miler though, so there’s also some excitement.
